A Spoonful of "Sugar" Kick-Starts Sporting Careers
Five students at Nottingham Trent University will be waking up feeling slightly 'sweeter' having been selected to join a prestigious Coach4sport apprenticeship scheme, following a rigorous application process inspired by Alan Sugar's award winning programme.
Committed to professional development in the sporting field, Nottingham Trent University teamed up with Ellis Guildford School Sport Partnership, Sports Coach UK and Kickstone Recruitment, a specialist sport focused consultancy, to launch the innovative scheme.
Lewis Gadsby, Kirsty Moss, Alan Wheat, Thomas Cockeram and Matthew Rowlinson have been selected to participate in the apprenticeship scheme, which will unlock their professional potential by offering high quality training qualifications, the opportunity to achieve a coaching award and a coaching placement in a local primary school.
The successful students were chosen after careful consideration and were invited to interview before a panel to assess their capabilities and put their passion for a future career in sports coaching to the test.
Commenting on his success Lewis Gadsby said: "I'm really pleased that I've been chosen for the apprenticeship scheme. I'm really keen to pursue a career in coaching and this is the perfect stepping stone to help me to build on my skills and achieve my dream."
Added Stuart Smith from Coach4Sport at Nottingham Trent University: "More and more students and young people are set on a professional career within the sports industry but aren't too sure of how to go about that. We've teamed up with partner agencies to bring together all the relevant support and recruitment expertise to really make that happen."
