Coast to Coast Cycling Challenge completed

Coast to Coast cyclists

Gary Hargraves, one of Sportworks’ directors, has become the group’s fittest trailblazer by completing the  Coast to Coast mountain bike ride - an epic route based loosely on the original ‘Wainwrights’ walking route, but since adapted to create a cycling route that challenges the keenest of riders!

Setting out from St Bees Head on the west coast of England, the route crosses three National Parks, The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales and The North Yorkshire Moors, before finishing at Robin Hoods Bay on the opposite side of the country. Gary and a group of his friends covered an exhausting but exhilarating journey of 210 miles in just 6 days – in somewhat typically changeable weather this July!

As a group of regular cyclists, they all met as dads of their respective children at a local school.  They decided to raise money for Prostate Cancer, smashing their target of £1000, with over £1300 already raised.

Speaking at the end of the challenge Gary said, "I couldn't have imagined how testing this ride would be - not just physically,  but mentally.  I am in pain and absolutely exhausted, but I am immensely proud of the whole team.  Would I do it again?  Of course!"
