Extreme Appointment Brings Urban Thrills to Derbyshire

A key player in the regional skate scene, 29 year old Michael McMaster from Derbyshire, has been appointed to open the gateway to young people and provide coaching and skills development in skateboarding and extreme sports. The appointment is part of the NOW Wirksworth Regeneration project at the Fanny Shaw Community Park in Wirksworth.

No stranger to what is fast becoming a mainstream sport and a cultural phenomenon, Michael has 15 years of experience of skateboarding reinforced by the successful growth of his Matlock based business, skateboarding outlet, 100% Skate.

With a proven track record and competitive acclaim at high profile international tournaments, Michael lives and breathes extreme sports and is thrilled by the opportunity to coach young people and develop facilities in the region that will help to grow urban sports within the local community.

One of his first key projects will be assisting with plans to launch a new skate park at the Fanny Shaw Community Park, Wirksworth, which will take place on 21st July.

Commenting on his appointment, Michael said: “This is a great opportunity to pass on the skills I’ve acquired over the years and to encourage young people to experiment with skateboarding, BMX and inline sports.

“Skateboarding is a way of life and lots of young people want to be part of the culture but don’t have the confidence or skills to know where to start. I really want to show them how to make that happen and what a buzz they can get by giving it a go.”

His role will also involve making longer term plans for extreme sports development, including setting up courses, training sessions and building awareness in the local community so people can tap into those sports and understand more about what they offer and how they can benefit from them.
