Sportworks proves snow is no barrier to London Cup success

This year Whitgift School, Croydon, hosted the London Cup fencing competition. Run by British Fencing, the event saw elite women compete in the Sabre discipline.

Sportworks was selected to manage and oversee the accommodation and ground transport for the event, which attracted participants from across the globe.

The two day competition took place at the end of January. Poor weather conditions on Sunday evening resulted in the teams being snowed in.

Stephen Minto, logistics manager at international sports event management company Sportworks said:

“The London Cup is a high profile event on the fencing circuit. With worldwide participants, overseeing accommodation for all the contestants was a big job.

“Despite heavy snow fall presenting logistical challenges, we ensured everyone was accommodated until transport routes were re-opened. We also liaised directly with airlines to re-arrange flights so athletes could all return to their home destinations without the headache of unnecessary delays and costs.”
