Tom Wenham at Lacrosse World Championships
No stranger to the international lacrosse circuit, Tom Wenham, Director at Sportworks UK, will be coaching the England Squad to ensure they're ready to face the competition in the high profile World Championships in Ontario, Canada this summer.
Having played for his country in the 2002 World Championships in Perth, Australia, Tom's experience on the pitch will now be paying dividends as he has taken on a new coaching role, with specific responsibility for the teams’ defensive strategy.
As a minority sport in the UK, lacrosse might not share the same enviable resources and profile as others such as football and cricket. However the England lacrosse team, current European Champions, are highly competitive at international level.
With a sixth ranking in the world after the last World Championships, behind the USA, Canada, Iroquois Nationals, Australia and Japan, England is in a strong position in global sports terms and is hoping for at least a semi-final place this time round.
Commenting on his new role Tom said: "I’m hugely excited about the trip and the potential that the team is showing. This is the culmination of nearly two years of training and we’re certainly the best prepared of any previous England team. We’re certainly capable of causing a few upsets!".
The Lacrosse World Championships begin on 13 July and further information on the tournament can be found at www.2006worldlacrosse.com
