How did you arrive at your role as SSCo? What is your next career move and what are your long term goals?

This one day course is the first of three workshops focusing on the skill development for the SSCo role. It help you to identify yours strengths, skills and competencies and use
them constructively to set a plan for your career development.

The workshop is divided into 2 parts. The first part is all about YOU – managing your personal resources (your knowledge, skills, experience and time), and your professional development in order to achieve your work objectives and your career and personal goals. The second part is about managing and leading others – providing direction to people and motivating and supporting them to achieve the vision and objectives for your area or School Sport Partnership (SSP).

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course you will have:

  • an understanding of your core values, personal goals and what makes you tick
  • an understanding of your career objectives, how they fit with team and SSP objectives and how to set clear priorities for development, in the short, medium and long term
  • identified the barriers and risks to career development
  • been introduced to techniques for coping with change, time management and problem solving
  • identified gaps between the current and future requirements of your role – your skills, knowledge and understanding
  • an understanding of how to create a sense of common purpose and generate excitement, enthusiasm and commitment to a shared goal
  • identified a range of leadership styles and understand how to select and apply them to appropriate situations and people
  • an understanding of the importance of effective and regular communication
  • an understanding of how to support and empower others in your family of schools and develop their own ways of working
  • identified how, through your performance you can win the support of people within your area.
