About the course

This workshop is for leisure and sports development professionals with responsibility for strategic planning and management. The workshop will give you an understanding of policy and strategy development, enabling you to define plans, manage for results and communicate with key stakeholders.

This course contributes to National Occupational Standards Unit A12 (contribute to change through implementing and reviewing strategy and policy).

This course will help you to:

  • define plans, manage for results, and communicate with key stakeholders

By the end of the course you will:

  • understand national, regional, county and local level strategies and how they inter-relate and impact upon local sports development work
  • understand how policy and strategy can be developed, both from the top down and the bottom up, and how individuals at different levels can influence policy and strategy
  • understand how to develop policy and strategy, including effective involvement of stakeholders, and ensure that new policy is realistic and based on identified need
  • see the importance of effective communication of policy and strategy, and how you can use different methods of communication to meet your objectives
  • know how to manage any necessary change and minimise the impact of change on internal and external stakeholders
  • understand the purpose and relevance of improvement tools and quality systems such as Towards an Excellent Service (TAES) and Quest evaluation, and understand the relevance of reporting results
  • have examined different systems for monitoring and  understand the relevance of reporting results
