Work Placement Information
Overview -
We are committed to supporting and developing talent and offer work placements to current and recent graduates to enable them to utilise and expand their theoretical and personal skills in a work environment.
We are committed to providing a genuine learning opportunity with a wide variety of experiences. The programme is structured to the individual and we will sit down with you from the outset to establish your particular interests and areas for development and will then endeavour to develop a work placement opportunity to match.
The placement is designed to improve your opportunities of gaining full-time employment. Previous work placement graduates have gone on to work for us full-time but this cannot be guaranteed and is dependent on both suitability and relevant opportunities being available. It should be noted that we currently have no vacancies for full-time employment. Therefore there are no strings attached to the placement and you are able to pursue alternative opportunities at any time.
Aims and Objectives -
- To provide you with an opportunity to develop skills and experience in a dynamic and diverse business environment
- To enable you to meet and experience a wide range of clients and business services within the sport sector
- To provide you with considerable responsibility and challenges within a supportive framework
- To provide an enjoyable working environment
- To enable you to attend relevant conferences, exhibitions and training workshops to further your professional and personal development
- To introduce you to a wide range of individuals and organisations, both regionally and nationally, to enable you to expand your knowledge and networks effectively
Benefits -
As well as the obvious opportunities for personal development and future employment we also offer the following:
Laptop
We will provide you with a laptop (for use whilst on work placement), along with access to the Sportworks network and an email address. This will be configured to enable you to access files and send and receive emails when out of the office. This provides the option of working remotely for some of the placement. We don’t recommend this as we feel it diminishes the opportunities presented by working out of our office but we appreciate that flexibility is frequently required.
Mobile phone
You will be issued with a mobile phone for work use where this is deemed relevant.
Expenses
We are committed to ensuring that the placement does not cost you money (e.g. travel). We will therefore provide expenses of up to £20.00 per day to cover travel and other costs associated with the placement.
Over and above this all other costs directly associated with the placement are covered. For example you may be required to attend meetings and spend some time away from home. In all such cases full expenses will be paid.
Office Space
You will have your own dedicated desk and phone line in the office and will not be expected to share or hot-desk.
Training and Development
We will offer and pay for relevant training, as well as attendance at workshops and conferences.
Future Employment -
Sportworks is constantly expanding and we are therefore looking for potential full time employees. The placement period therefore provides an opportunity for us to work with you to assess your strengths and key skills to see if there is a match with our requirements.
We understand that the vast majority of individuals on placement with us are looking for full-time work and this is therefore also our over-riding aim. If we are unable to offer a position at Sportworks we will do everything we can to introduce you to other key contacts in the sport and leisure sector who may be looking for staff. We will happily provide a full reference.
Flexibility/Duration -
We completely understand that those on placement may also have other commitments (e.g. paid work, training times etc). The placement is therefore extremely flexible and from the outset we will agree on days and hours to be worked. We strongly recommend that as much time as possible is spent in the office to maximise the learning experience but we will also provide the infrastructure (phone, laptop etc) to enable you to work from home. We also recommend that a minimum of two days a week are spent on placement and ideally would like the position to be full-time. This enables us to dedicate as much time as possible to you and to provide significant responsibility and challenge. We recommend that each placement lasts for a minimum of six weeks but are also willing to discuss alternative durations.
